about

Writer, musician, meditation teacher Calverley has combined his mystical vision and creativity with renowned composer and sound designer, Stephen Bacchus and together they have created a sonic tour-de-force unlike any other previous Tibetan bowl album.

This recording is an extended symphony of primal resonance using ancient bronze masterpieces from Nepal and Tibet as well as modern quartz crystal bowls. The Tibetan Bowls used in this recording are between fifty and two hundred years old, made in the time-honoured tradition with seven sacred metals, including gold, silver, copper, tin, mercury, and iron. Bowls fashioned in this way resonate the vibrations of the seven planets and create an echo of the music of the spheres.

Combining various recordings of these rare bowls and then digitally editing and layering them, the artists were able to extract an elemental essence not attainable by playing of the bowls in real time. The resulting rich harmonics open up a truly remarkable world of inner experience which we hope will take you to new places in your inner journey.

Roger Calverley: Composer/Performer'’s Comment

Most of the Tibetan Bowls used in this recording are antiques, which means they are between fifty and two hundred years old.
Made in the ancient way with seven sacred metals, including gold, silver, copper, tin, mercury, iron and lead, they were
created to echo the vibrations of the seven planets and to create a physical
counterpart of the music of the spheres. Crystal, on the other hand, embodies the light that is within the Earth, the planetary energies that have been buried deep in the heart of matter. The crystal bowls we use have been created by fusing quartz crystal at high
temperatures, and they are made to resonate with the seven chakras.
Thus the combination of bronze and crystal bowls brings
together the macrocosmic music of the spheres and the microcosmic resonance of the chakras, creating an ideal sound milieu for
meditation.

Stephen Bacchus: Composer/Arranger/Engineer’s Comment

As directed by Roger we assembled this album by first recording an extensive library of all of the bowls (both bronze & crystal) that Roger has in his collection, which is over fifty. We recorded striking the bowls soft and loud, rubbing them in numerous ways and then combining them in pairs and various ensemble combinations.

Once the over two hundred recorded samples had been collected they were then “dumped” into the computer to be digitally edited. Most of the pieces were arranged by creating loops of the many recorded samples and then layering them in a variety of different ways. We were very careful throughout this whole process to keep everything acoustic, organic and elemental.

NO SYNTHESIZERS OR ELECTRONIC
PROCESSING DEVICES WERE USED IN THIS RECORDING.

With the exception of a couple of small instances of one octave pitch shifts of bowl samples and a tiny bit of reverb on one piece,
everything is as it was recorded. The real artistry and arranging of this album is all in the selective editing and
layering processes.
